All-in-one diapers (AIO) don't need a separate cover. The absorbent inner fabric is attached to the outer waterproof fabric. Pocket diapers have a waterproof outer layer, a soft wicking inner fabric and a "pocket" to insert the absorbent fabric into. These styles of diaper are very easy to use and great for outings and daycare. With both these styles it is recommended to wash the entire diaper and not reuse it with a new insert. All-in-two styles have a reusable outer shell and have replaceable inserts. We have found, however, that the outer cover is frequently soiled when used and that reduces the reusability of this style.

How many? Figure 1 dozen per child per day in the first six months. So 24 diapers (any combination) will mean washing every other day. Older babies will need 6-8 diapers per day so 24 diapers will mean washing every 3 days.
